When visiting New York City, efficient transportation and access to the city’s best attractions are crucial to a successful experience.
A common question is whether New York Passes include a ticket for the Metro and Subway.
The answer: unfortunately not! Unlike many other cities, there is no pass that includes a ticket for the New York subway and buses. The New York passes are mainly intended for admission to sights and attractions.
Where and how to get your MetroCard:
- Vending machines: MetroCards can be purchased at vending machines in almost every subway station. These machines accept cash, credit cards and debit cards.
- Kiosks: In some subway stations there are also kiosks where you can buy MetroCards. You can also get help here if you have any questions about using the MetroCard.
New York Passes: Access to attractions, but not to public transportation
New York Passes such as the New York Pass, New York CityPASS or Explorer Pass are great ways to save money and gain convenient access to many of the city’s top attractions. However, these passes do not provide access to the public transportation system.
They are specifically designed to give you free or discounted admission to attractions such as museums, tours and historic sites.
